About the event
"Thank you for enabling me to join the tour of this magnificent property - it was a wonderful event - both the talk and the tour - and is an example of the reason I love being a member of HHA!" - Ian Webster
Michael Waterhouse, author of Family, Faith and Fortune in Victorian Sydney - The Edina Estate, explores the history of this landmark home between 1859 and its transfer to the Methodist Church in 1922.
‘Edina’ was home to three generations of a wealthy, religious family with a unique lifestyle. Professor E G (Gowrie) Waterhouse of ‘Eryldene’, Michael’s great uncle, was one of 24 children who grew up on the estate and he encountered his first camellias there.
As a family member, Michael tells stories of the people who lived at Edina, and this sense of personal connection brings the tours to life. It’s about the people as well as the house and a golden opportunity to explore part of Sydney's history.
